1. Introduction
Welcome to Mi Isla ("the App"), developed and operated by Believe PR, owned by Armando Jimenez. Mi Isla is the boricua-first place to see what is happening in Puerto Rico: weather, official alerts, earthquakes, Sahara dust, air quality, the sea and beaches, rivers and flooding, and precipitation radar — in Spanish and English, free at its core.
We built Mi Isla to be useful without being nosy. The App has no accounts and asks for no personal information. This Privacy Policy explains exactly what the App does and does not do with data.
- No accounts. We never ask for your name, email, or phone number.
- No analytics, no crash tracking, no advertising, no third-party trackers.
- Your preferences and cached weather are stored locally on YOUR device.
- Location is used only to show your area's weather and alerts. It is never stored on our servers and never tied to your identity.
- We do NOT sell your data. We have no data about you to sell.
2. Information We Collect
Mi Isla is designed to collect as little as possible. We do not operate a server that stores your information, and we do not maintain a profile about you.
2.1 Information You Provide
Everything below is stored only on your device:
- Your municipio: If you choose your town manually (or confirm the one detected from your location), that choice is saved locally to scope the weather and alerts you see.
- Preferences: Your language (Spanish/English), theme (light/dark/system), units (temperature, wind, wave height), and notification choices are stored locally.
- App activity used for the review prompt: A simple on-device counter of calm interactions, used only to decide when to politely ask if you would like to leave a review. It never leaves your device.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Approximate location (only with your permission): If you grant location access, the App reads your device location while you are using it to find your area. See Location Data for the full detail.
- Cached data: Weather and alert responses retrieved for your area are cached on your device so the App works quickly and offline.
2.3 Subscription Information (RevenueCat)
If you purchase Mi Isla Premium, our payments provider RevenueCat processes:
- Anonymous App User ID: A random identifier for managing your purchase. It is not linked to your name or identity.
- Subscription Status: Whether you have an active premium entitlement, so premium features unlock.
2.4 Information We Do NOT Collect
We explicitly do NOT collect:
- ❌ Personal identification (name, email, phone number, address)
- ❌ Usage analytics or behavioral tracking of any kind
- ❌ Crash or diagnostic reports sent to us
- ❌ Advertising identifiers (the App has no ads)
- ❌ Stored location history on our servers
- ❌ Contacts, photos, camera, or microphone data
- ❌ Health or fitness data
- ❌ Social media profiles or logins
3. How We Use Your Information
3.1 Core Functionality
- Determine which Puerto Rico municipio you are in (or near) so we can show the right weather, alerts, sea, river, air, dust, earthquake, and radar information.
- Request that public information from official and public weather services for your area.
- Remember your municipio, units, language, and theme so the App feels like yours.
3.2 The Daily Briefing ("El parte del día")
Mi Isla can summarize the day in plain language. Today this summary is composed entirely on your device from the weather readings the App already retrieved for your area — no additional personal data is sent to create it.
A future version may use an AI service to help compose this summary. If that is ever enabled, only non-identifying weather context for your area would be sent to generate the text, never your identity, and this policy and the App would be updated to describe it before it ships.
3.3 Subscription Management
- Verify whether you have Mi Isla Premium so premium features (radar loop and history, extended hourly forecast, full marine swell breakdown, river history, multiple saved locations) unlock.
- Restore your purchase across your devices when you ask to.
We do not use any information to build a profile of you, to advertise to you, or to track you across apps or websites. We cannot — we do not collect it.
4. Location Data
Location is the only sensitive permission Mi Isla requests, so we want to be completely clear about it.
- Optional: Location is never required. You can skip it and pick your municipio from a list instead, and everything keeps working.
- While-in-use only: The App only reads location while you are using it. It does not track you in the background.
- Resolved on your device: Your coordinates are matched on your device to the nearest of Puerto Rico's 78 municipios. We do not need or use a reverse-geocoding service for this.
- Used to fetch public weather data: Your approximate location (coordinates or area) is sent to public weather services so they can return the forecast, alerts, and conditions for where you are.
- Never stored by us, never tied to identity: We do not keep a copy of your location on any server, and it is never connected to a name or account because there are none.
- Never shared with advertisers: The App has no ads and no advertising partners.
4.1 Turning Location Off
You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings (iOS: Settings → Mi Isla → Location; Android: Settings → Apps → Mi Isla → Permissions). Mi Isla will simply use the municipio you choose manually.
5. Data Storage & Security
5.1 Local Storage
Your data lives on your device:
- On-device database (Drift / SQLite): Cached weather, alert, and conditions responses, plus a small fetch log.
- Device preferences: Your municipio, units, language, theme, and notification choices.
- iOS: Stored in the App's secure sandbox with iOS encryption.
- Android: Stored in the App's private internal storage.
5.2 Network Communication
- All requests to data sources use HTTPS encryption.
- Some public services (for example the U.S. National Weather Service and OpenStreetMap) ask apps to identify themselves with a contact string. Mi Isla sends a descriptive identifier — the app name, version, and a contact email — that contains no information about you.
- We do not run our own analytics, logging, or tracking servers.
5.3 Data Retention
- Local data: Stays on your device until you clear the App's cache or uninstall the App. We hold no server-side copy to retain.
- Subscription data: Retained by RevenueCat and the app stores per their own retention policies.
6. Public Data Sources
Mi Isla gathers information from official and public weather and geophysical services. When the App requests data for your area, your approximate location (coordinates or area) is sent to the relevant service so it can respond — but never your name or identity, because the App has none to send.

8. Notifications
With your permission, Mi Isla can send best-effort local notifications about significant conditions for your area, such as an active warning, heavy Sahara dust, or a notable earthquake.
- Notifications are generated on your device from the same public data sources. We do not run a push server, and we do not message you for marketing.
- You can turn notifications on or off at any time in the App's settings or in your device settings.
- Because delivery depends on the operating system and background limits, notifications are best-effort and should never be your only source for life-safety information. Always rely on official authorities.
9. Your Privacy Rights
9.1 GDPR Rights (European Union)
- Right to Access: Request information about data processing.
- Right to Rectification: Correct inaccurate data.
- Right to Erasure: Request deletion of data.

9.3 Exercising Your Rights
Because Mi Isla keeps your data on your device and holds no identity, most rights are immediate:
- Access: Your settings and cached data are visible within the App.
- Deletion: Clearing the App's cache or uninstalling the App removes all local data permanently.
- Location: Revoke location permission in your device settings at any time.

10. Children's Privacy
Mi Isla is a general-audience weather app and is suitable for users of all ages. It does not require accounts and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
- No accounts or personal identification are collected.
- Parents can use device parental controls and disable in-app purchases.
11. International Users
11.1 Data Processing Location
Mi Isla is focused on Puerto Rico. The public weather services it queries, and RevenueCat, may process requests on servers located in the United States or elsewhere. These requests contain only the area information needed to return weather data, never your identity.
11.2 Regional Compliance
- European Union: GDPR principles respected.
- California: CCPA principles respected.
- Other Regions: We respect applicable privacy laws.
11.3 Language
This Privacy Policy is available in English and Spanish. If there is any conflict between the two versions, the English version prevails.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect new features, legal requirements, or changes in the services Mi Isla relies on.
- The "Last Updated" date will be revised.
- Material changes — especially any change to how location or data is used — will be described before they take effect.
- Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
